San Francisco

The Coro Fellowship in San Francisco is founded on Coro’s unique curriculum of core leadership skills building, paired with real-world experiences with the city as the classroom. The Fellows Program combines project-based practice, informational interviews with private, public, and nonprofit decision-makers, and skills building in group governance, communication, and analysis. The Fellows Program has four major components: field placements, seminars, interviews, and focus weeks.

Field Placements Each Fellow works in a series of individually tailored assignments in business, nonprofit, government, and political campaigns. These placements are on average 4 weeks long. They provide the opportunity for Fellows to see how organizations are structured, how they function, and how they fit into the social, political, economic, and cultural fabric of a city.

Seminars Weekly seminars allow Fellows to reflect on their field placements and develop leadership and management skills. Facilitated by the Fellows trainer, skills-based seminars delve into negotiation, facilitation, consensus building, public speaking, and project management. Fellows are introduced to a variety of tools that will help them think more clearly and effectively and overcome assumptions and prejudgments in order to address complex challenges.

Interviews Fellows have the opportunity to conduct group informational interviews with leaders and decision makers in all areas of public life, giving Fellows rare first-hand exposure to leadership from diverse perspectives.

Focus Weeks Focus weeks are concentrated examinations of a particular sector or issue to provide the Fellows an opportunity for up-close and in-depth study of a topic. Fellows interact with the people who lead organizations and institutions involved in the issue they are exploring through interviews, activities, site visits, and shadow placements. In San Francisco, recent focus week topics have included healthcare, innovation, state government, and agriculture.

** To Note: San Francisco’s program runs from September - March.
