Los Angeles

The Coro Fellowship in Los Angeles is founded on Coro’s unique curriculum of core leadership skill-building paired with real-world experiences that rely on the city as the classroom. Unconventional by traditional academic standards, the Coro Fellows Program is rigorous and demanding. Since 1947, the Fellows Program has combined experiential learning, face-to-face interaction with private, public, and non-profit decision-makers, and development in analytical, group governance, and communication skills. Coro program participants learn about the real world in the real world – by actively questioning, interacting with diverse constituents, finding resources, and coming up with innovative solutions to the problems faced by their communities. Together, participants explore community dynamics, leadership, and decision-making, while building the skills necessary for successful careers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Coro Fellows learn to:

  • Build consensus among multiple stakeholders

  • Communicate with members of diverse communities and sectors

  • Analyze resources, constituencies, and goals

  • Understand the subtleties of group process and decision-making

The program runs from September through June.  Coro Southern California chooses 10-12 Fellows who have demonstrated leadership within their academic, professional, and/or local communities.. The Fellows Program has five major components: field placements, seminars, interviews, focus weeks, and community-base impact projects.

“I owe much of who I am and how I got here to the enriching experience that Coro–and my fellow Coro Fellows–gave me. As a Coro Fellow, I learned the value of being an effective leader using critical thinking skills. I benefited from being exposed to real-life situations and diverse schools of thought. I also experienced amazing personal growth, and an opportunity to meet new friends & colleagues that have helped carry me through life’s journey.”

Hon. Holly J. Mitchell, Los Angeles County Supervisor
